Hi, Happy Pilot Season! How's everyone's Mercury Retrograde going? Does it feel like it's always Mercury retrograde? If yes; that's because Mercury is in actual retrograde 9 weeks a year and in the shadow phases in and out of retrograde another 12-15 weeks a year. That's a lot of time for cconfusing and stalled communications, not to finalize contracts, book travel and have technical issues am I right? So if any of these have been going on for you since Feb 1 (HELLO MTA) you are not alone. Here's my favorite Mercury retrograde calendar to help you know what's coming up or when it's finallycoming to an end! www.findyourfate.com/astrology/year2020/2020-mercury-retrograde.html Mercury retrograde gets such a bum rap. It's not actually a bad time. There are so many great things to do during a retrograde. It's a fantastic time to do research, to clear out your clutter, to write ( as long as you hit save constantly,) to create new goals and visions for the future, to rest, to read plays/screenplays or actual books. It's a great time to catch up on filmmakers work you have meant to watch, work on new scenes or monologues, do self-tape practice, do more self-care, nurture your relationships (business and personal) and restore. It's also the best time to practice patience, as things move a lot slower ( YES, MTA I am still talking about you.) Some of the things I am working on this retrograde are re-accessing my priorities and being open to receiving. Being open to receiving is not just receiving gifts, auditions, jobs, money, new roommates but also receiving help, guidance and new information. I would love to hear what you are working on in the comments. Last week, I did a photo shoot with a friend. This was to be a more editorial stylized shoot. We went to Nordstrom and I got to try on gowns. I fell in love with one and imagined wearing it to the Golden Globes. If you are having a rough time; especially during a retrograde;. I highly recommend grabbing a friend and going to try on gowns or suits and dance around envisioning where you will wear them or even who you would be in that attire, when at least one piece inevitably looks ridiculous on you. This is my dream dress. It's by flor et.al. Why is the photo above headless? The answer: hair and make-up, which brings me to my final brushstrokes of this post. The biggest tip I got during this whole photo shoot process was about MAKE-UP. If I am getting headshots done; I hire a make-up artist to be there for the shoot, full stop, non-negotiable. However, there are other times, maybe a festival premiere etc. when you want some extra help but don't want or have the $200 + to shell out to a make-up artist. Maybe like me, you are confident doing your base and lips but getting camera ready eyes could use some outside help. Maybe you want a totally new look for an event. This is where SEPHORA comes in. You can get one 15 minute free mini service a day so base, lashes OR eye-shadow. BUT if you just spend $50 in products, that you get to keep, any products, doesn't even have to be make-up, doesn't even have to be for you; YOU CAN GET A FULL FREE MAKE-UP SESSION. Warning: I wouldn't just waltz in and say GO! DO MY MAKE-UP! You have to make an appointment and it's crucial you know what you want. Bring Photos. Do research. My photographer was very specific. Matte only, no shimmer. Sparkle and shimmer gets caught in any lines and wrinkles and is hard to retouch. Who knew? Another request which was more of a command- always get an extra set of eyelashes put on for a shoot to make your eyes pop. She asked for a smoky eye but not overly glam. She even gave me a smokey eye photo palette to show the make-up artist which one I wanted. I had a wonderful experience with my make-up artist Oliver at Sephora Columbus Circle. He stopped all through the process to check if I was getting what I wanted and adjusted like a pro. I left ready to be photographed, with a new set of lashes to keep, a Make Up Forever lipliner and this Dry Bar shine hair product called Sparkling Soda I've always wanted but never bought because it felt unnecessary. Let me know if you get a service at Sephora, how it goes for you and what location you went to, in comments. This is not a paid partnership, I genuinely loved this experience and look forward to a reason to go back for more. I won't get the photos back for a couple weeks but here's a sneak peak. I will close out with one CREATIVE YAY for the week. Feel free to share any of yours. Got an out of the blue, last minute, urgent voice over audition from a CD that's hired me twice before and was able to record it at a work gig, in a crazy room with a taxidermy Tiger on the wall. Tigers are one of my spirit animals ( Live tigers not taxidermy but beggars can't be choosy in New York City.) I blame the 3 hours it took to write this blog and any typos or grammatical errors on Mercury Retrograde.
